The founder of Parallel Community, Hamish Miller, passed away in January 2010. While Spirit always has a plan, this wasn't quite in the plans of us humans, so it caught us rather by surprise.

This prompts a re-evaluation and reformulation of the aims and purpose of the Parallel Community. It's a time to take stock, think, visualise, consult, listen, make changes and move on from here.

Each year in May, Parallel Community holds an Open Day at Treviscoe, near Hayle in Cornwall, the home of Ba and Hamish Miller. This year it is on Saturday 8th May 2010, and it will include a celebration of Hamish's life. We have also set this date as a goal to aim for in our reformulation process. You're invited to come to the Open Day! The special bonus is that Treviscoe's gardens are festooned with bluebells at that time.

After Hamish's passing, we entered a period of quietness, to give full and open consideration to the meaning of it all, and to realign to the future. We realised it was advisable not to rush into things. We also needed to give Ba Miller time to adjust to her new position in life without Hamish. Besides, there were many practical details for the core team of PC to get to grips with, concerning the website, mailing lists, newsletters, accounts, passwords and who-does-what, before we could even start with the future. Since we're all volunteers, with lives to live, we needed to pace ourselves sensibly.

The aims and purpose of Parallel Community won't change radically, but they will probably shift. Toward this end, we're beginning a reflection, visualisation and consultation process amongst the people who have been involved with PC thus far, inviting the views of the wider membership, as well as looking for people who will be able and willing to take on duties.

During March-April 2010 we shall invite the views of PC members, and invite individuals to come forward to propose taking on roles and initiatives in PC, with the aim of coming to a plan that we can state publicly by the time of the Open Day on May 8th. After that, it's time to get on with it.

At present it's premature to say more than this. For those of you who are interested in playing a part as a Connector or running a special interest group or activity within PC, please consider what you might contribute, or initiatives you might take on, how this might realistically pan out in your life and how it might contribute to PC's wider aims over the next few years. Before long we shall invite you to propose ideas in the Meeting Place - and we'll go on from there!

Best wishes from us! Stay tuned to this site and to PC newsletters!
